Thank you for your interest in submitting to Blue Sage Magazine! We are so excited to see your work! We welcome entirely original, previously unpublished poetry, prose, and art submissions from kids in grades 3-6. Please see our Copyright & Plagiarism policy below. All writing submissions will receive personal, detailed feedback. Please email submissions to bluesagemag@gmail.com.
Poetry: You may submit up to two pieces at a time across the genres (two poems, a poem and a prose piece, or two prose pieces). Writing should be in Times New Roman, 12 point font. Please submit your work as a .pdf or Microsoft Word .docx attachment.
Prose: You may submit up to two pieces at a time across the genres (two poems, a poem and a prose piece, or two prose pieces). Each prose piece may have up to 1,500 words. We accept fiction and creative nonfiction pieces. Unfortunately, we cannot accept fan fiction or research papers/essays due to potential copyright issues. Writing should be in Times New Roman, 12 point font. Please submit your work as a .pdf or Microsoft Word .docx attachment.
Art: You may submit up to two pieces of art at a time. Please make sure that your artwork is completely original before submitting, and attach a clear image, or preferably a scan, of your art to your email as a .jpg or .pdf file. Make sure there are no shadows, objects, or other distractions in the image. Unfortunately, we cannot accept fan art (artwork based on movies, books, TV shows, other artwork, etc.) due to potential copyright issues.
Note: We do not accept submissions with graphic, harmful, offensive, excessively violent, or overly dark content/themes. Please be sure that your work would be appropriate for our 3rd-6th grade audience before submitting.
Copyright & Plagiarism
Before submitting any artwork or writing, please verify that your work is completely original, meaning that you created it based purely on your own ideas and imagination. It cannot be copied from the Internet or based on other works of fiction (such as books, movies, TV shows, other artwork, etc.). If you have any questions about this, please email us.
Authors’ and Artists’ Rights
By submitting to Blue Sage Magazine, you agree that your work (poems, prose, and/or art) is completely original and previously unpublished. You also grant us First Electronic Rights so that we may publish your work in our online magazine. Please note that we may make minimal changes (related to spelling, grammar, clarity, format, etc.) to your work before publication. All authors and artists retain the rights to their work.
